Well, yet another Gossip Girl episode hits us with its best shot. And, it hits us right between the eyes. The Season 2 episodes are heating up, and Episode 7, “Chuck in Real Life” brings us face-to-face with one of the show’s most unique characters. Love him, or hate him (and either way, he’s not hard to look at), Chuck is in the spotlight this week. This Gossip Girl episode blends the killer music we’ve come to expect together with the edgy scenes we know and love.
So, what juicy track do we have this week to draw us into the lives of Manhattan’s elite high schoolers? Try “Snowflakes” from White Apple Tree. Not a hard-rockin’ song, to be sure, but one that suggests we’ll be spending some quality time with the brooding character who likes to remind us in that heavy whisper…“I’m Chuck Bass”. HOT! But, back to the music…
After a quickie from the Black Keys - a somber tune called “Lies” (and we see a lot of lies in this episode – whether it’s Chuck and Blair playing each other, Serena’s stepdad trying to be daddy dearest, or Nate trying to hide a secret from Dan) - this episode adds one Mr. Alain White to the Gossip Girl music hitlist. And just who is Alain White you ask? He’s only the guitarist for the daddy of Brit pop – Morrissey. Alain White’s tunes are the perfect compliment to this episode. His “City Nights”, NYC Streets”, and “Martini Lounge” could actually be their own GG episode names.
A few more awesome tracks round out this episode, including The Virgins’ “One Week of Danger”, which made it onto the Gossip Girl Soundtrack (OMFGG), and is probably the most upbeat song in this episode. We’ll be looking forward to the next episode to see what rabbit holes the music of Gossip Girl will take us down.
